At Knox, we believe in enabling our students to be empowered to have agency and to find purpose. We want to prepare our students for the future, whatever that may be.
Knox Grammar School
With the world of employment rapidly changing, we want to equip our students with the skills and attributes they need for a rapidly changing world. In other words, we want them to be 'globally competent'.
A globally competent individual has the courage and confidence to contribute to their school and community. They seek to learn beyond the classroom. They are developing their creativity, collaborative and critical thinking skills, becoming agentic and caring citizens and embracing a positive mindset.
We have developed a new Certificate of Global Competency for students across the School that is awarded based on the accumulation of micro-credentials across four domains over six years.
Micro-credentialing returns the ownership to the students and allows them to map their own pathway through areas of interest to them and have them recognised in a transferrable way. Our students will be fully engaged in the curation and demonstration of their skills, both within school and outside of it.
Students will work their way up through the program to achieve proficient, bronze, silver and gold awards.
Micro-credentials validate learning, no matter where or when it occurs and are awarded based on submitted evidence of an action or achievement. This allows students to work at their own pace and place, and rewards all students, such as those who might not find success in academics. They validate the passion, knowledge, skills and interests that students already have, and encourage them to be agents of change and committed citizens who are altruistic and have the courage to move beyond their comfort zone.
Employers and universities are now asking students to provide more than just an ATAR. As an official Knox certification, students will be able to validate what they have achieved and demonstrated beyond the curriculum.
The micro-credentials will be recorded at the end of each semester on their reports. This ensures that Knox is not just espousing Total Fitness but enabling it to become a reality for every student.
Each of the boys/students will be able to log their credentials under one of the four domains, which are further aligned to the dispositions which embody the characteristics and values of the competency. As each student progresses through the certificate and logs their credentials, they will have their own tailored dashboard which will record and retain an electronic passport of each students demonstration of skills. This will travel with them during their six years and be useful beyond the gates of Knox in future employment, university applications, scholarships and endeavours.
