“Visual Arts deepens our understanding of ourselves, our communities, and the world around us,” says Wendy Shearer (Visual Arts Teacher and Head of Department, Senior School). “Through creative practice, students explore ideas, communicate experiences, and develop personal ways of seeing and interpreting the world. Art becomes both a form of expression and a means of connecting across time, place, and culture.
“The Annual Visual Arts Exhibition celebrates a diverse selection of student artworks across traditional and contemporary media. The works on display reflect the creativity, technical skill, and conceptual thinking of students from Years 7-12, showcasing a wide range of artistic approaches and individual voices.
“A highlight of the exhibition is the Year 12 Body of Work collection, which demonstrates the innovation, dedication, and creative independence fostered through the Stage 6 Visual Arts course. Accompanying artist statements provide insight into each student’s ideas, processes, and artistic intentions, enriching our appreciation of their practice.
“This exhibition is a celebration of the talent, commitment, and passion of our students, supported by the dedication of the Visual Arts staff and the ongoing encouragement of parents, carers, staff, and the wider Knox community. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this exhibition possible.”
“We celebrate not only the impressive works on display, but also the learning journey that sits behind each piece,” says Matthew Robertson (Deputy Headmaster, 7-12 Academics, Senior School). “Every artwork represents thoughtful planning, experimentation, revision and reflection. Students begin with an idea, but through an iterative process of making, evaluating and refining, that idea evolves into something richer and more sophisticated. Learning to receive feedback, reflect on their progress and make purposeful adjustments is an essential part of the creative process and one of the most valuable skills developed through Visual Arts.
“The works you see are evidence of the imagination, curiosity and thoughtfulness of our students. Through their study of Visual Arts, they learn to communicate ideas, perspectives and experiences in powerful and creative ways. They also develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills as they respond to artworks, examining techniques, artistic practice and the social, historical and cultural contexts that shape meaning. These skills encourage students to look carefully, think deeply and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.

In 2025, Knox Grammar and Wahroonga Prep joined the Independent Schools NSW 'Respectful Relationships: Proactive Education' initiative. The program is designed to strengthen a whole-school approach to respectful relationships, helping young people develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions required to build healthy and respectful interactions throughout their lives.

Congratulations to Knox Debating on another outstanding season. Knox retained the CAS Debating Shield for Best Overall School for the sixth consecutive year and claimed the Open Firsts Trophy after an undefeated season.
