Knox students, parents and families, and staff have been invited to share their thoughts with the School as we move forward with the implementation of a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), and National Reconciliation Week was an ideal opportunity to collaborate on its development.

Our Aboriginal students’ leadership and generosity in sharing their culture was a key part of National Reconciliation Week (NRW) and our non-Indigenous students and staff were fortunate to have benefited from these learnings, as well as participate in a range of insightful activities.
A Reconciliation Breakfast with local Elders marked the beginning of NRW, where attendees participated in a community consultation about what a Knox RAP would look like.
Throughout the week, our Aboriginal students performed cultural dances and smoking ceremonies at the Boarders Back to Country event, as well as at Wahroonga Prep and the Prep School. They were accompanied by their Mentor, proud Wiradjuri man Uncle Den Barber, and Mrs Brooke Prentis, a proud Wakka Wakka woman who provides Knox staff in embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in the classroom
The students were invited to represent the School and act as Flag Orderlies at the Annual Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Servicemen and Servicewomen Commemoration Service in Hyde Park, and the week culminated in a formal Assembly with special guest Royston Sagigi-Baira, a Thanakwith (Aboriginal) and Wagadagam (Torres Strait Islander) man from Mapoon, Queensland, and the 2023 winner of Australian Idol.
Headmaster Scott James acknowledged his gratitude for the efforts of Knox’s Aboriginal students during NRW.
“I am so proud of our Aboriginal boys, who are so willing to share their culture and are proud to share that with us,” Mr James said.
