Created and implemented in 2021, The Certificate of Global Competency is a way for our Knox students to track their successes in all facets of school life.
Margie Raymond
Co-ordinator of the Knox Certificate of Global Competency
As our Co-Curricular activities and achievements outside the classroom continue to grow, the certificate provides an opportunity to recognise the multitude of activities and micro-credentials our students engage in throughout their time in the Senior school.
Students can log their participation and successes in a multitude of nominated events and activities which they take part in. Different levels of involvement correspond to different levels of points, which, once approved by a member of staff, are added to a student’s certificate dashboard. Each commitment is worth 10, 30 or 50 points, depending on the time commitment and activity. There are four domains in which all activities: Agency and Entrepreneurialism, Altruism and Advocacy, Responsible Active Citizenship and Deep Learning and Agility, each of which have further subcategories. The points are tallied on a personalised dashboard reflective of each student’s activities. Each of the points contribute towards one of the four levels within the certificate - Proficient, Bronze, Silver and Gold.
In collaboration with parents, staff, students and a key student advisory team, the certificate is the culmination and creation of 21st Century learning, connected to industry. The certificate encompasses key components of the Australian curriculum and general capabilities of creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, citizenship and character. It aims to set Knox students apart and set the standard for showcasing all their skills and achievements in the form of a transcript.
Each semester the students are recognised for their achievements and awards are celebrated through Academy assemblies and Year Meetings. As students travel through their Senior schooling, their certificate transcript will reflect the accumulation of credentials and activities which they have completed.
During 2022, we anticipate that the certificate will continue to grow and expand with more students engaging in activities which stretch and challenge their ability. The certificate aims to connect with external groups and organisations to be recognised as a representation of a program which shows a student’s ability to work beyond the classroom and to take them beyond the gates of Knox.
