Twenty students from Years 9 to 11, along with three staff members, traversed the 96 kilometre Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea over the school holidays.

Leaches, mud and rugged terrain were among the challenges faced by the students on the eight day hike.

"I wanted to do the trek itself for the physical challenge, as I wanted to see how hard I could push myself to achieve such a massive physical feat. I also wished to pay tribute to those men who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our great country, in order for us to live the life we do today."Hugo Howell, Year 11
On the trip, the boys held services to recognise and remember the lives and service of two Knox Old Boys, John M Riley (OKG32) and Desmond G King (OKG36), who passed away in Papua New Guinea during WWII.
"The hiking was actually physically easier than I expected. However, the days were long so it was more of a mental challenge. A leaky tent was not great especially on the last night when it poured and my sleeping bag all my kit got wet."- Matt Brooke, Year 9
The highlights of the trip for included building friendships with other Knox students, the porters and local villagers, especially the kids.
"My highlight from the trip was being with the boys. There was a great sense of friendship and achievement." - Matt Brooke, Year 9
