Competitors from 262 schools and organisations across the world gathered at Indiana University Bloomington in the USA, for the World Finals at the Future Problem Solving International Conference.
Our team of Year 11 students, Siwoo, Martin, Harry and Nathan, participated in the Global Issues segment, with Oliver Weeding (OKG20) as their coach.
The opening ceremony included the national anthems of all countries represented at the conference, followed by an address from Dylan Sherman (OKG12), the President of the Future Problem Solving Board of Trustees.
Our students took on a Global Issues exercise to be completed within a three-hour window. They were tasked with a challenge to present their Action Plan in a four-minute scenario.
The Action Plan development entailed collaboration, brainstorming and debating. This was solidified into a two-part detailed solution backed by research, with an implementation plan and an ethical analysis.
The Knox team presented their two-part scenario in response to the ‘Future of History’, and the problems they identified in the unseen future. Their scenario was about mitigating the problems by authentically reintegrating learnings from the past into society today.
The boys progressed to the Finals Round – the only Australian school represented in the 12 finalists! New Zealand was the other non-USA country represented in the Finals.
Well done to the boys for proudly representing Knox Grammar School within the vibrant Future Problem Solving community. This was a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow students from international backgrounds and put positive solution-building into practice.
