Our history
Wahroonga Preparatory School began at St John’s Presbyterian Church Wahroonga in 1926, in response to the need for a school in Wahroonga. Headed by Miss E Whyte, the school opened with 11 pupils enrolled at a fee of 4 guineas per term, and at the end of the first year, enrolment at WPS had increased to 19. Initially lessons were held in the church hall, and this occurred again during World War 2, which meant that the children had to be taken on long walks when funeral services were being conducted.
Over the years WPS has undergone many changes, building extensions, upgrades and improvements, particularly in recent years. An intensive and on-going building program has transformed much of the school, the playground areas and staff amenities.
In 1999 WPS was awarded registration to Year 4 for the first time since the school’s inception, allowing children to go from Pre-School through to Year 4.
